What makes a great Sci-Fi?

Movie or book or TV series, it doesn't matter. If you've ever loved a sci-fi, what was it that you loved about it? The lightsaber duels in star wars? the futuristic military of star trek? The fact that being a robot doesn't require acting talent so the terminator was the perfect role for the Governator? what makes sci-fi awesome to YOU?
